A woman recently had to give up her beloved 13 year-old cat Jamie when she moved into a nursing home, which is how the cat ended up at an RSPCA Australia shelter.
Jamie was confused, as he had no idea why he was in the shelter. He also had a series of health problems, including cat flu, kidney disease, and bad teeth. The shelter gave Jamie the treatment that he needed, and soon, he was feeling much better.
When Sarah Dempsey went to the RSPCA in the hopes of adopting a cat, she was not planning on taking in a senior feline. However, that all changed as soon as she laid eyes on Jamie.
“When I first met him, he was asleep, but woke up as I bent down to look at him,” Sarah said. “He clearly wanted some pats so I stuck my hand through the slot of the enclosure and he head-bumped me and purred. Later the staff let him out to see how he was with me and he was so affectionate.”
Sarah adopted Jamie that very day and took him home with her. She soon saw just how affectionate the cat was, as he would follow her around and constantly purr and meow.
“He won’t leave my side,” Sarah said. “He is extremely affectionate, head-bumping and weaving around my legs. He likes talking to me at night and follows me around my apartment.”
Jamie indicated to Sarah that he wanted her to hold his paw while he slept that first day, and she happily complied. When she eventually let go, he started meowing until she held it again!
“If I let go he wakes up, meows, and claws my hand back to him,” Sarah said. “I think we’ve bonded already.”
Sarah and Jamie have been inseparable ever since!
“I knew he’d rescue me from feeling alone, and I’d do the same for him.” Sarah said. We’re so happy that these two found each other, and we wish them many years of happiness together!
