Working as a flight attendant for years, Shelia Fredrick is used to complicated situations with passengers. However, she never expected to see something life-changing. But on the flight from Seattle to San Francisco, she did.
When she was on the plane, she noticed something particularly strange – a blonde girl in skimpy clothes, sitting next to an older man in nice clothes. Passing them, Shelia noticed the look the girl gave her. She felt the girl’s gaze pierce her deeply, giving her a sense of urgency. Continue reading the story below.
“I had a rather strange impression of this girl. I felt there was a problem. The fact that the girl was so badly dressed compared to the man was the first indicator.” Quite a difference, Sheila thought to herself.
She decided to try to talk to the man, but he became very defensive. Shelia began to think something was up.
“At first I felt that something was wrong. He was much more mature than the girl sitting next to him and reacted violently to any movement around him. I’m glad I was able to intervene quickly and save a life.
After a while, she went to the bathroom and put a pen and paper there. She hoped the girl would use these if she needed help.
Passing the girl again, Shelia motioned for her to go to the bathroom. The girl got up and went to the bathroom.
Sheila turned around to discover a note that read, “I need help.”
She immediately called the authorities. As the planes landed, the police were ready to arrest the man.
They discovered that this 14-year-old girl was a victim of human trafficking. She was kidnapped just two months ago.
Retired flight attendant Nancy Rivard founded Airline Ambassadors International. They train attendants how to spot the signs of human trafficking. After Shelia discovered this girl, she received training from them to help her see more clearly in the future
