After Katie Price got divorced in her early 30s, she decided to start a new chapter in life by moving to a new home in Colorado, changing her career, and fostering a child. Katie had struggled to get pregnant, and she had always been interested in adoption.
Back in 2016, a social worker told Katie about a 4-day-old nameless boy who was dropped off at the local hospital. Katie decided to foster the boy, who she named Grayson, and she legally adopted him on his 11 month birthday.
Though Katie loved being a mom, she planned to wait a few more years before taking in another child. However, her plans changed when another caseworker called her about a newborn baby girl who had been dropped off at the same hospital and was in need of immediate placement.
“I know over the next 10 minutes and subsequent phone calls I made that afternoon, the phrase ‘I know I am crazy, but God is telling me to say YES’ kept coming out of my mouth,” Katie said.
Baby Hannah was dropped off at Katie’s home hours later, joining Grayson in her new forever home. It was only when Katie looked closer at Hannah’s hospital bracelet that she came to a shocking realization.
Looking at the bracelet, Katie noticed that her birth mother’s first name was the same name Grayson’s birth mother had given to the hospital. Grabbing Hannah’s discharge papers, Katie realized the birth mom also shared the same birth date as Grayson’s birth mom.
While Grayson and Hannah do not look alike at all, Katie started to suspect that they were related.
“Grayson is half African American with beautiful darker skin and dark curly hair,” Katie explained. “Baby Girl has a pale white skin tone with straight red-blonde hair.”
Katie went about tracking down Hannah’s birth mother so that she could learn the truth, and when she found her, the woman said that she had given birth to a baby boy before Hannah. A DNA test later confirmed that the two were indeed biological half-siblings!
“What if Baby Girl had gone to another family?” Katie asked on her blog. “We would have never found her or Grayson’s mother. The connection would have never been made! I could not believe the miracle that had just happened.”
Katie officially adopted Hannah last month.
“That day I said ‘Yes’ to taking the Baby Girl I felt the strangest feeling ever. I don’t think I had truly until that moment felt a undeniable calling from God (or whatever higher spirit you personally might believe in),” Katie recounted. “My brain was telling me to say ‘no’ because it made no sense and was not in my plans, but something inside kept saying you have to say ‘YES’. It is a sheer miracle, once in a lifetime chance… call it what you will, but it is amazing that my children found each other.”
Katie is now hoping to adopt another baby, who is the five month-old sibling of Grayson and Hannah. His name is Jackson!
“I am constantly taking leaps of faith and building my wings on the way down,” Katie said. “I am sharing my passions and loves along this crazy journey that God has blessed me with.”
These siblings are very lucky to have a mother like Katie looking out for them!
