Three young men are being hailed as heroes after they were caught on camera by a police officer helping an elderly woman into her vehicle.
Officer Kanesha Carnegie of the Levy County Sheriff’s Office in Bronson, Florida was at a gas station when she saw 89-year-old Rose Griest having trouble getting into her car. Rose’s husband of 20 years had been driving her to a doctor’s appointment when he pulled over to allow her to use the restroom, but by the time she got back to her car, the elderly woman was so tired out that she could barely stand up.
The officer was about to go over and help Rose herself when she saw three young rappers from the area approach her vehicle. Carnegie recognized them immediately as Joc Koe Stoe, Marty, and Freddy G, and she was touched when she saw that they planned to help Rose into her car. The officer ended up approaching the group and asking if she could film them, to which they replied with an emphatic yes.
“It was a beautiful thing to see,” Carnegie said. “I know these men from the neighborhood, and I wanted them to have that moment to show who they really are.”
Marty explained that they had been grabbing snacks at the gas station when they caught sight of Rose.
We didn’t even ask if they needed help — we felt comfortable giving them a hand right away,” he said. “I kept thinking, ‘She could have been my grandmother.’ 100 years old is a beautiful life.”
Tommy Griest, Rose’s grandson, could not believe it when he came upon the video.
“I was scrolling through and saw my grandmother’s purple outfit,” he said. “Praise these guys for helping them.”
“I don’t think they even know about the video,” he said of his grandparents. “It would make them happy.”
