
Jessica Slaughter is an 86 year-old woman who is showing the world that you are never too old to get healthy and lose weight!
Jessica just managed to lose a whopping 120 pounds simply by walking around her one bedroom apartment in St. Louis, Missouri. The senior citizen has struggled with obesity ever since she was a small child, and she decided that it was finally time for her to change her life when she was diagnosed as a pre-diabetic when she was in her 70s.
“Even as a kid in Mississippi, I was always the fattest kid in the class. I got teased a lot,” Jessica said. “I didn’t know how to stop eating. Fried chicken. Bacon and eggs. Desserts, like cakes and pies.”
After getting this diagnosis, Jessica cut meat, dairy, and alcohol out of her diet and began walking laps around her apartment each day. Though she only walks around 20 to 25 minutes a day, each of her morning walks are around 3,000 steps in total.
Since she started doing this, Jessica has slimmed down from a size 22 waistband to a size 4. Doctors have told her that she is healthier than ever!
“I went to my doctor for a checkup. He told me my health was better than his,” Jessica said. “I was a borderline diabetic. I’m free of all that, and I know it came from my way that I eat and exercise.”
She is now hoping that her story will inspire others to get up off the couch and get healthy!
“I just want seniors to know just because we’ve gotten a certain age, we don’t have to stop living,” Jessica concluded. “I want to tell them that there’s a better way of life if they choose.”
